KILLEEN, TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Newly elected Justice of the Peace Claudia Brown has set a $4 billion bond for a man facing trial for murder.
That’s right, $4 BILLION, with a B. It’s the largest bond in Bell County history and possibly the largest ever in the U.S.
The number is so high the booking software couldn’t accept it, so the actual amount ordered is set one dollar shy at $3,000,000,999.
Bell County Deputy Chief Sheriff Chuck Cox told the Temple Daily Telegram he has never seen any bond set higher than $1 million.
The accused, Antonio Willis, 25, is charged with killing Donte Samuels. His lawyer, Billy Ray Hall Jr., said he’s confident the bond amount will be lowered by request, though he doubts it will be low enough for Willis to afford to post bail.
Attorney Jeff Parker said the enormous bond could be challenged on the grounds of constitutionality.
