Local Sports Figures React to Election Results

DALLAS (WBAP & KLIF News) — Millions are reacting to the presidential election results on social media, including athletes and owners associated with North Texas.

Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban, who has been an active supporter of Hillary Clinton throughout the election, took a different tone on social media after Donald Trump was projected as president-elect.

He took to Twitter both late during Election Night and Wednesday morning, saying America needs to give Trump a chance and continue to support the good and lobby for what you disagree with.

On Wednesday morning, he did shift gears a bit, highlighting Clinton’s lead in the popular vote.

Many DFW athletes have been silent, but one former DFW athlete was more blunt than Cuban. Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Jake Arrieta, who pitched at Plano East Senior High School and TCU, took a more direct approach toward celebrities who have said they would leave the country if Trump was elected.

And then there’s former Dallas Cowboys’ coach Jimmy Johnson, who apparently wasn’t as publicly invested in the election and said he did not stay up watching the results come in.
