Dallas City Council to Consider Incentive for TV Show to Come Back

moviesDallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas City Council will consider a proposed incentive to bring hit TV show “Queen of the South” back to town to film Season 2.  Karl Zavitkovsky with the Dallas Office of Economic Development says Season 1 was a huge win for the city.

“$21 million of local spending,” Zavitkovsky began, “405 local member jobs, at around $29/hour, plus 160 local actors, 2,000 hotel room nights, and $130,000 dollars for off-duty police.”

The proposed incentive is $200,000.  Councilman Lee Kleinman questioned why a successful TV show should have to be given an incentive, and likened it to corporate welfare.  Former Council member Delia Jaso said if Dallas doesn’t, some other city will.

“We cannot lose to Austin and Houston, when we’ve got the best amenities in the State of Texas,” Jaso told the Committee.  “They should come here to film, and to shoot, any time they have the opportunity.”

The Committee voted 5-1 to send the proposal to the full council.
