Officer-Involved Shooting in South Dallas Sends Suspect to the Hospital

imag12871Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – An officer-involved shooting in South Dallas sends a man to the hospital.  Major Jimmy Vaughan with the DPD says it started about 4:30 this afternoon, when officers were looking for a robbery and carjacking suspect near the intersection of MLK and Meyers.

“As the officers approached the suspect, he fled on foot across the street, where he ran into several DISD officers, then he fled back across to the north side of the street again,” said Vaughan.

That’s when the suspect pulled a pistol, and a DPD officer fired one round, hitting the man in the leg.  He was taken by ambulance to Baylor Hospital, and is expected to recover.  Witnesses said police fired six or seven shots after the suspect had dropped his pistol, but police wouldn’t comment on that.

The shooting happened right across the street from James Madison high school, and about half a block from the MLK Community Center.
