Garland (WBAP/KLIF News) – Hawaiian Falls water parks filled with families Monday as the parks finish their 100 day season.
At the park in Garland, President Clint Hill says Hawaiian Falls’ six parks had strong attendance in June and July, but rain last month hurt ticket sales during the hottest stretch of the year.
“We had a really strong summer, even though it was pretty rainy in August,” Hill says. “That was unusual for Texas.”
Hill says Hawaiian Falls introduced a theme called, “Family Friday Nights” with movies and fireworks this year. He says the events were among the parks’ most popular.
Hill expects Family Friday Nights to continue next year. Already, he says the parks are looking at how they can improve for 2017.
Hill could not comment on staffing issues surrounding Hawaiian Falls’ Pflugerville location. Earlier this year, the family of a man who drowned at the park in 2014 filed a lawsuit. The lawsuit says the park was understaffed when it opened.
Since then, Hawaiian Falls has started working with the aquatic safety consultant firm, Ellis and Associates.
“We love the partnership,” Hill says. “Every year, we evaluate our safety and where we could be better.”
