Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – Several thousand people filled an arena in Austin for a rally in support of Donald Trump. Trump attended fundraisers Tuesday in Austin and Fort Worth.
“This state has known unbelievable heartache in the recent days after the murder of five police officers in Dallas,” Trump said. “To all law enforcement in America: we are with you and we support you. We will always stand with you. We love you.”
A border patrol agent took the stage, saying 200,000 people have been caught trying to cross into Texas over the past five years. This week, the agents’ union endorsed Trump.
“Your country is not safe; our homes are not safe unless Donald Trump changes the security at the border,” one agent said.
Trump renewed his call to build a wall along the border with Mexico, leading to a cheer from the crowd when he said, “And who is going to pay for the wall?”
In Downtown Austin, protestors gathered outside the building where Trump held his fundraiser. Some wore clown suits.
“A lot of Trump’s policies are jokes, and his campaign has been a circus,” one protestor dressed as a clown said.
Outside the rally, the head of the Travis County Republican Party held a sign that accused Trump of being a child rapist. Robert Morrow wore a court jester’s hat.
“I think all politicians should wear jester’s hats,” Morrow said. “A lot of them are frauds and hypocrites.”
Police would lead Morrow to an area set aside for protestors.
“We’re probably going to lose Congressional races; we’re probably going to lose local races because Donald Trump is so unpopular with voters that many Republican voters are probably going to stay home.”
Trump has campaign stops scheduled in Florida and Mississippi on Wednesday.
