DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas Fire and Rescue ran out of ambulances for about 45 minutes on Thursday.
Normally, there are 40 EMS units available. It’s a little more during peak hours. For a time on Thursday afternoon, every ambulance was tied up transferring patients or responding to calls.
The city activated its contingency plan by putting private ambulance companies on standby, and paramedics on fire trucks were available during the shortage.
EMS calls are up more than 7.5% this year.
Dallas Fire and Rescue is expected to get a report soon from an outside agency to see if more ambulances are needed, or if they need to deploy them differently.
