(WBAP/KLIF News) A spate of shootings involving police prompted a local non-profit to amp up its efforts. “All Lives Matter” is working to figure out ways to de-escalate situations that could lead up to a shooting. John Mohnicky is the leader and says the group started as a faith-based organization years ago in North Texas with 2 missions: its “Hunger Will Not Win” and “Cancer Will Not Win” programs. The non-profit has since gone national and partnered with police following the Ferguson shooting to help bring unity between law enforcement and the community. Mohnicky has a message to be heard by both sides. He says when an officer encounters a suspect, one method is the “2-and-5” program, which has officers taking 2 steps back, and 5 seconds to breathe and think about the next move before firing. Mohnicky asks that someone confronted by police practice the “2-2-and-5” program, which has them putting their 2 hands up, taking 2 steps back, and 5 seconds to think.
