Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas District 26 Congressman, Dr. Michael Burgess says even a chance to see the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro isn’t worth the risk of getting Zika…then bringing it home.
Burgess told sister station WBAP, so far, none of the Zika cases in the US actually came from the US.
“All those cases occurred because someone left the country, went to a country that has a problem with the Zika virus being transmitted by mosquitoes, and brought it back home,” said Burgess.
He’s urging Americans to take a pass on the Olympics, and for the administration to put travel restrictions in place to keep people from traveling to Zika hot spots, like Brazil.
Burgess said eventually, Zika-carrying mosquitoes will be here in America, but there’s no sense in making that happen sooner than it would naturally.
