AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Republican lawmaker from Collin County is working on a bill that would give the state the sole authority to protect certain classes of people.
Plano State Representative Matt Shaheen believes cities and school districts are spending too much time trying to come up with policies on transgender bathrooms.
His proposal would let the state regulate the issue, not local or federal governments.
The bill is expected to be submitted in the next legislative session, which begins in January.
Shaheen told The Texas Tribune in April that he will “die on this issue politically” and that he is “going to bat for his wife and daughters.”
