MARYLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – An eighth grader from Coppell finished fourth in the national spelling bee.
Smrithi Upadhyayula is a student at Middle School West.
She was disqualified in the 11th round on the word “theriaca”. Upadhyayula received $5,000 for her effort.
An Austin fifth-grader was crowned co-champion with a New York student.
