ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – An Arlington police officer and man suspected of murder are both hospitalized after a shooting Monday night at an apartment complex on Summit Avenue, near the University of Texas-Arlington campus.

The officer was assisting Saginaw police as they tried to serve a warrant related to the murder of a 17-year-old over the weekend.

“The suspect that was struck is the only suspect that we were seeking at the time,” said Arlington Police Sergeant Vanessa Harrison.  “The suspect began firing at one of our officers, and our officer was struck.  He was able to return fire on the suspect.”

According to a tweet from the police department, the injured officer is in “good condition.”

The 23-year-old suspect is under police guard at a nearby hospital.  “Based on the outcome, he will be taken into custody.  We are still not finished with the investigation, and we still have to comb through a lot of evidence,” said Sergeant Damon Ing.
