Obama: ‘Madmen’ must not get nukes

obama nuclearWASHINGTON DC – President Barack Obama is urging world leaders to do more  to prevent “madmen” from getting their hands on a nuclear weapon or a radioactive “dirty bomb.”  President Obama said Friday that the world faces a persistent and evolving threat from terrorists who are eager to unleash a devastating nuclear attack. “It would change our world,” he said. “There is no doubt that if these mad men ever got their hands on a nuclear bomb or nuclear material, they would certainly use it to kill as many people as possible,” Obama said. .”

Speaking at a nuclear security summit in Washington, Obama said there was a persistent and evolving threat of nuclear terrorism despite progress in reducing such risks. But he insisted: “We cannot be complacent.”

Obama was hosting more than 50 world leaders for his fourth summit  to prevent nuclear terrorism. North Korea’s nuclear defiance was also high on the agenda. Russian President Vladimir Putin boycotted the meeting.
