(NEW YORK) -- Europe’s largest bank apparently wants to get leaner.

HSBC plans to cut more jobs -- as many as 5,000, according to the Financial Times.

It’s part of a strategy to make HSBC more efficient and profitable.

The bank has more than 40,000 employees and 250 branches in the U.S., mostly in New York.
