McKinney Increasingly A Tourist Destination.

MCKINNEY – WBAP/KLIF – Visit McKinney, the tourism arm of the city, says 2019 brought increasing numbers of American and international travelers to that city as tourists. Final numbers are still being tallied, but in 2018, Visit McKinney says they generated $9.7 million in local taxes from the nearly $230 million dollars spent for all travel in McKinney.  Visit McKinney counted 582 thousand visitors in 2018.

Spokeswoman Beth Shumate says International travelers including some from Lithuania, Denmark, Australia and multiple European nations are increasingly choosing McKinney as a destination city.  Visit McKinney offers travelers help finding venues, securing blocks of hotel rooms and finding transportation once in town.

Visit McKinney says sports and recreation visitors have included the NCAA Division II Football Championship teams in 2018 and 2019.  The same will hold their annual season-closer in McKinney for the next two years as well.  Shumate says travelers from more than 80 countries have visited McKinney, and many of them European, with longer, extended vacation times.  Shumate says she finds the city of McKinney is considered a destination spot for the many European travelers that make a circuit of Texas; from McKinney to west Texas; down to Austin and then San Antonio to see the Alamo.
