FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Tarrant County is reporting its first flu death of the year. This death involves a young child.

“On an average flu season, there are about 36,000 flu deaths, you know, in an average year,” Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said.

Taneja says we are already trending higher early in the season for flu illness.

“Early signs are that we are trending higher early in flu activity,” Taneja said. “The more time we have for flu to circulate, the more likely we are going to have a heavier season.”

He says residents should get a flu shot if they haven’t already.
