MedStar Implements Life-Saving Stop the Bleed Kits

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Medstar has implemented a new kit that will help save more lives in the event of a disaster.

The Tarrant County ambulance service assembled six specialized duffel bags containing 40 Stop the Bleed kits that can be given to bystanders in the field to help first responders treat trauma victims.

The kits have been placed in all Medstar supervisor response vehicles with additional kits being made available during gatherings of large crowds like fairs or concerts.

Medstar’s Michael Potts manages special events and safety and helped design and implement the kits.

“This is a tool that has the potential to save lives during disasters or events like an active shooter situation,” he said.

Potts recommends the kits to be made available everywhere the way fire extinguishers and defibrillators are.

The STB kits were funded by a $10,000 grant from the North Texas Regional Trauma Advisory Council.

MedStar is offering free classes to the public to learn how to use the Stop the Bleed kits.
