Law Enforcement Ready for Capital Murder Suspect Arrest Protest

GREENVILLE –  Hunt County Sheriff’s Department officials say they are working with “state agencies” to provide additional security for protesters decrying the arrest and capital murder charges laid against 23 year old Brandon Gonzalez, named by officials as the gunman in a Greenville homecoming party shooting that killed two men and injured 14 others. A protest is planned for this evening.

Friends and family of Gonzalez say the suspect is innocent, and police have the wrong suspect as only one witness is reported to have confidentially named him as the shooting suspect.  Hunt County officials repeatedly asked for witnesses help, expressing frustration that no one seemed to have seen the suspect.

Gonzalez says he was outside the venue in a vehicle when the shooting took place.  Officials claim their evidence to charge him centers on the confidential witness statement, as well as a bullet proof vest the suspect wore.

A protest featuring family and friends of Gonzalez is planned to begin at 7 pm Saturday in front of the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department.  Department spokesman Sgt. Jeff Haines says officials are certain they have the correct suspect.  Two, 23-year old men died in the shooting; 12 more were wounded by gunfire and another two people were injured trying to escape the melee.
