Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Nearly a week after the police shooting of 28-year old Atatiana Jefferson, Fort worth Mayor Betsy price says emotions are still raw.

“The community is heart-broken, I have yet to talk to anybody who doesn’t think that this is tragic situation at so many levels.”

Mayor Price says the fact that Jefferson had a gun doesn’t change her view of the incident.

“No, she’s in her own home and I will tell you … I mean I’m a gun owner and if I saw someone with a flashlight outside

my window, I would get my gun also.

Price says the big mystery is why did former Fort Worth police officer not identify himself when he went Jefferson’s residence early on October 10 after a call from a concerned neighbor for a wellness check.

The officer is charged with murder.

Jefferson will be eulogized tomorrow at The Potter’s House in Dallas.

Meantime, Jefferson’s 8-year nephew, who witnessed her shooting, has been more ‘restrained’ and ‘cautious’ around the house since the incident.

That, according to family attorney Lee Merritt who told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the young boy, identified only as Aion, use to burst into rooms with amusing, enthusiasm before the incident; now he waits for an adult to enter first before he will follow.
