Fort Worth Activists Demanding Policy Changes After Several Officer Involved Shootings Over the Years

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Fort Worth activists are calling on the Police Department to change it’s policies on how they use deadly force in the wake of several officer involved shootings over the years.
Atatiana Jefferson was shot and killed by a fort worth officer during an open door check after a concerned neighbor called 9-1-1.
Reverend Jeff Hood also talks about a 2013 murder of a white older man, Jerry Wayne Waller, who was shot in his front yard. He said it doesn’t matter about race or affluence. “We’re here to share we’re here to demand we are here to do all these things because we want people to realize that this can happen to anyone, this can happen in your front yard or while your playing video games,” said Hood.

Hood said the color of your skin doesn’t keep you from being a victim from officer involved shootings. “They have different socioeconomic areas but identical outcomes,” he said.

Hood said he hopes an outside agency can come in and review the department and make necessary changes.

Also, the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s office announced it has sent Jefferson’s murder case to a grand jury.

“We have completed an initial review of the case, and based on the evidence we intend to ask the Grand Jury for an indictment of murder against Aaron Dean.  We will prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law,” DA Sharen Wilson said Friday afternoon.
