Former Dallas Officer Pleads Guilty to Fake Citations

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A former Dallas police officer has pleaded guilty to falsifying traffic citations to collect overtime pay.

The U.S. Attorney’s Officer of the Northern District of Texas announced former Officer Mathew Alan Rushing pleaded guilty to one count of false statements.

He was accused of at least 38 fake reports including citations where he made up people and events and even altered the name of someone he stopped in order to issue a warrant for someone who didn’t exist.

The 35-year-old is accused of doing this over a nine-month period of time.

The Dallas Police Department, The FBI and the Department of Transportation conducted the initial investigation.

Rushing faces five years in prison.
