Fort Worth Mayor, Interim Police Chief in Washington Discussing Bills to Curb Gun Violence

Washington (WBAP/KLIF)- Mayors and police chiefs across the country have asked for national legislation to tighten restrictions on firearm sales, saying new laws would prevent mass shootings.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy price and interim police chief Ed Kraus are in Washington to support a universal background check system on firearms sales. Mayor Price said it’s been a positive meeting. “What you saw was mayors saying ‘our citizens have reached a tipping point and they expect us to be on the front lines saying let’s do something’ and this is the most logical decision,” Price said.

Price said even though there were mayors on each side, the consensus to pass these bills had bipartisan support

“They also wanted to know creative and innovative things city’s were doing on their own and I felt they were listening to us,” said Price.

The call for action came on the first day back from summer recess for the U.S. House and Senate.
