DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The victim in an overnight shooting in Dallas is the son of a Dallas ISD board member.

According to the Dallas Police Department, 21-year-old Christopher Whitfield was found early Thursday morning laying in the middle of the 3600 block of Utah Street in South Dallas with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported by Dallas Fire-Rescue to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to DISD, Whitfield is the son of Board Trustee Maxie Johnson, who represents parts of Oak Cliff and West Dallas.

DISD Board member Miguel Solis took to Twitter Thursday to offer condolences to his colleague and the family of a 9-year-old girl shot and killed Wednesday in Old East Dallas.

“I pray for the families and friends of the many who have recently perished in our city due to the mindless menace of violence,” Solis said.

Dallas Police are asking that anyone with information regarding Whitfield’s death contact the DPD Homicide Unit at (214) 671-3701.
