Plano Agencies Offer Active Shooter Response Training in Wake of Recent Mass Shootings

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A seminar aimed at teaching the best ways to respond to an active shooter scenario will be held Tuesday night in Plano.

The training session is free and open to the public. It will be hosted by the Plano Police Department, in partnership with the Plano Fire-Rescue, Public Safety Communications, and Emergency Management departments.

Plano Police Lieutenant Mica Lunt said Tuesday that first responders decided to hold the seminar in the wake of recent mass shootings in El paso and Dayton, Ohio.

“It was our opinion that likely several members of our community might be concerned,” said Lt. Lunt. “So we did choose to schedule it at this time because of those shootings.”

Lunt said the training is intended to empower people to respond to and survive active shooter incidents. Participants will receive instruction on what to do should they ever find themselves in an active shooter incident and how to utilize the “Run, Hide, Fight” strategies.

Participants will also receive training on how to control life threatening bleeding, which Police believe is critical information for survival not only in active active shooter situations but in any situation where someone is suffering from severe bleeding.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Plano Events Center.
