Former Fort Worth Chief of Police Granted TRO, Delaying the City from Hiring New Chief

The City of Fort Worth can’t hire a new chief for at least 2 weeks.

A judge granted a temporary restraining order requested by former Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald’s lawyer, Stephen Kennedy.

The TRO is in place to delay the city from hiring a new chief until his case can be publicly heard.

“One purpose of litigation is to get Chief Fitzgerald’s position of Chief of Police reinstated and this is the first step to that process,” he said.

Fitzgerald was fired, in part, for alleged misconduct at a Washington D.C. event.

The Texas Workforce Commission later looked into the incident and said Fitzgerald didn’t do anything wrong.

The next court hearing is on August 1st, the date for the public hearing hasn’t been announced.
