DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Registration is open for the Dallas Mayor’s “Back to School Fair” next month.

35,000 people are expected to attend and will have access to free health and dental screenings, haircuts and school supplies.

Mayor Eric Johnson said the event is vital to countless Dallas families.

“I know the Back to School Fair helps a lot of working families make that first day of school a good one for our kids,” he said.

There are a lot of families who struggle to make ends meet across the city and getting school supplies together each year can be tough. Mayor Johnson said having access to school supplies also puts the student in a positive frame of mind.

“You had that school shopping list and you went with your parents to buy those supplies…make sure you had your crayons, and your pencil sharpeners and your number two pencils. It made you feel like you’re ready to learn on day one. That’s important,” he said.

The fair is on August 2nd at Fair Park in Dallas.

Pre-registration events are being held this month across Dallas.
