Additional Lanes Opened on PGBT: Traffic Congestion Relief in Plano, Carrollton

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF)- Travelers in Plano and Carrollton could see some traffic relief. The North Texas Tollway Authority has opened an additional east bound lane on the President George Bush Turnpike between Frankford Road and The Dallas North Tollway. With the opening of this section, drivers now have four travel lanes in the eastbound direction between Frankford Road in Carrollton and State Highway 78 in Garland. Widening between the DNT and SH 78 were previously completed and opened to traffic.

Michael Rey with NTTA says this is part of a $2 billion investment to improve roads and ease congestion in North Texas. “More widening, more improvement, more efforts to stop congestion,” Rey said. “We are seeing so many large coming to North Texas and these folks bring there cars…we need somewhere to put them,” he said. There are four more roadways set to expand later this year and early 2020:

  • DNT to I-35E (eastbound lanes from I-35E to Frankford Road and westbound lanes from the DNT to I-35E, anticipated completion late 2019)
  • I-35E to Belt Line Road (construction anticipated to begin later this summer)
  • SH 183 to I-20 (construction to begin in 2020)
