Flower Mound Man Charged in DUI Crash That Severed a Police Officer’s Leg

San Marcos, TX (WBAP/KLIF) A North Texas man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, in connection with a life-threatening accident involving a South Texas police officer.

On Saturday night, San Marcos – just south of Austin –  Officer Claudia Cormier was responding to a traffic hazard call on i-35 between TSU and the San Marcos outlets when her car was rammed by another vehicle. The impact immediately severed her right leg just above the knee.

A nurse who happened by helped the officer by using t-shirts to make a tourniquets to stop the bleeding — police say it’s a move which likely saved Cormier’s life before emergency crews arrived.

The driver was identified as 58-year old Neil Sheehan of Flower Mound.

In A tweet, the San Marcos police chief said Cormier vowed to returned to work:

Donations are being accepted for the injured officer through the Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union and the San Marcos Police Department.

Cormier’s husband is also a San Marcos police officer.
