Midlothian Police Vow to Solve Missy Bever’s Murder Case on Three-Year Anniversary

MIDLOTHIAN  (WBAP/KLIF News) – It’s been three years since the brutal murder of Missy Bevers and Midlothian Police have vowed to solve the case.

The fitness instructor, wife and mother of three was killed just before dawn April 18th, 2016 as she was getting ready to teach a boot camp class at a local church.

She suffered puncture wounds to her head and chest. In an effort to get help from the public, investigators released surveillance video of a suspect clad in tactical gear and carrying a hammer just before Bever’s was murdered.

Police said the suspect appears to be around 5″8 inches plus or minus 1.53 inches in height and walks with a gait in which the feet appear to turn away from the body, more predominately on the right foot.

It’s a case that gained national attention but after three years and more than 2,000 tips later it still  remains unsolved.

In a statement, Captain John D. Span said the case is still very active.

“There has been substantial assumption about this case as it continues to receive nationwide attention. Please know that we will continue to thoughtfully protect the release of information about Missy’s murder so long as this case remains open. To do otherwise would be irresponsible and simply poor police work. Missy was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, and sister. She, her family, and our community deserve our best efforts. Since the beginning, finding justice for Missy has been our number one priority. We will do that by following the evidence wherever it may lead us.”

Span laid out some details about the investigation.

He said the gun that was found at the scene was confirmed to belong to Bever. It was not used during the crime and was located in her car.

The surveillance video also captured a car the parking lot of a nearby business early in the morning before the murder occurred. Span said the car appears to be a 2010-2012 Nissan Altima, 2010-2012 Infinity G37 or a similar type of car.

He stressed that the public’s help is vital and said investigators will continue to work with the community to  get Missy and her family some justice.

“Sometimes, members of our community have information of some value but do not come forward with the information because of concerns that it may not be important or deemed as a waste of time. It is our sincere belief that this murder will be solved through collaboration with the public. We believe that somebody who has not yet come forward may have that vital piece of information that to this date unknowingly is being withheld. We appeal to the members of the public, please contact the Midlothian Police Department, regardless of how insignificant they may think their information may be,” said Capt. Span.
