Dallas County Target of EF-4 Simulated Tornado Strike

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Emergency managers from multiple cities and counties in North Texas participated Thursday in the largest severe weather exercise ever conducted in the Metroplex.

“We know that failing to plan is planning to fail,” said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. “This is a great opportunity for fast action, stress, problem solving and camaraderie as we drill for an awful, multi fatality disaster with extensive damage to critical infrastructure,”

The Emergency Operations Center table-top exercise simulated an EF-4 tornado affecting structures in the Dallas County cities of Dallas, Garland, Farmers Branch, and Mesquite as well as several cities throughout Denton and Tarrant Counties.
A large number of federal, state and regional agencies took part in the exercise in the Dallas County EOC, including the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Texas Division of Emergency Management, National Weather Service, ONCOR, Tarrant County Emergency Management, City of Fort Worth and Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management.
