Collin County Tops List of Stormiest Texas Counties with Start of Spring

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Spring officially begins Wednesday and will bring warmer temperatures with the threat of rain and thunderstorms over the next couple of months in north texas.
Meteorologist Brad Barton said Tuesday that spring is time of year to always stay alert about the weather.

“Know what the weather is going to be every day,” Barton said. “With the tools that we have now we can warn people two, three, or four doors in advance.”

Storms affected more Allstate insured homes in Collin County than any other part of Texas over the past ten years. Allstate Insurance tallied the top 25 Texas counties affected by severe weather, identifying areas with the highest number of wind-, lightning- and hail-related property damage claims from 2008 through 2018. Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall and Tarrant counties also fell on the list for the highest number of claims over the past ten years.

“Storms affect every corner of our state every year. There are no areas of Texas spared by severe weather including strong winds, hail or lightning”, said Mark Tucker, a DFW agent. “It’s important for families to take precautions to protect themselves and their belongings from severe weather events.”

In the event of a storm, official recommend property owners make temporary repairs, document damages, and research contractors.
