Flood Insurance Requirements to Roll Out in Arlington

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Some Arlington homeowners, renters and businesses may soon be required to have flood insurance. The City will roll out new flood insurance maps next month to update the areas of Fish Creek and Cottonwood Creek.

“There was a lot creeks and channels that have never been mapped by FEMA so we went through and studied every creek and channel in there and determined if there was a flood risk associated with  it,” said Amy Cannon, Assistant Director for Arlington’s Storm Water Group.

City offcials said some areas that were not previously considered high risk areas will be, and there may be some new flood zone designations.

Cannon said Federal Regulations require any property within the flood plains to hold a flood policy.
