Congressional Democrats Say No Deal (Again), Mr. President

DALLAS – WBAP/KLIF – Congressional Democrats, through House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, turn down a new effort by President Trump to get the same $5.7 billion dollars in funding to build a border wall along the southern U S line with Mexico.  President Trump spoke live from the White House Saturday afternoon, seeking the same funding, offering thousands of so-called “Dreamers”, or DACA residents brought illegally to the United States as children, another three years in the U S legally, and the option to stay for “protected immigrants”.  The Dreamers would supposedly be free from concerns about deportation in that three year period.

The President also itemized some of the monetary request, listing funding for his plans to add 75 new immigration judges at the border, 270 additional Border Patrol agents, roughly $800 million dollars in “urgent humanitarian assistance” for the immigrants, and another $805 million dollars in drug detection technology. The same $5.7 billion dollars called for by the President to build a border wall was included with his latest “offer” to the Democrats.

The partial government shutdown, launched with the intent of forcing Congressional Democrats to “give” and pony up the border wall construction money, is now in its fifth week, with thousands of government employees not working or working but waiting until the shutdown ends to see their earned pay.   Congressional Democrats continue to offer bills on Capital Hill they say will restore government operations while the debate over border wall funding goes on.  Congressional Republicans have so far indicated they’ll not send to the President a measure he has been openly derisive of, as is the case here.
