Arlington Police Release Body Cam Video of a Deadly Traffic Stop Shoot Out

UPDATE: 3:50 PM 1-17-2019. Arlington Police have released body cam and dash cam video of a traffic stop that left one man dead and an officer seriously injured Friday night. 20-year-old Tre’shun Miller was shot and killed after fleeing a drug investigation during a traffic stop. Dash Cam Video shows Miller running away and firing shots at the officer. Another officer returned fire, killing Miller. Police Chief Will Johnson says investigation is ongoing and detectives will decide if the actions of all involved was lawful and if they’re actions were appropriate. The driver, 21-year-old Jessica Lawson, and two others in the back seat were not charged at the time. According to a tweet by Dallas Attorney Justin Moore, who was hired by Miller’s family said the passengers in the car told the family he fired in self defense. After watching the video, Moore said the video was inclusive and Arlington Police needed to further their investigation. Arlington police initially pulled Lawson over for failing to use a turn signal. Police say after smelling marijuana in the car the officer called for backup.

The officer who was shot, a 17 year veteran, is recovering. “We are optimistic about our officers medical prognosis but make no mistake this officer faces a long and challenging recover before they can return to duty,” Chief Will Johnson said.

UPDATE 8:49 PM 1-12-2019.  Arlington Police report an officer shot during what’s described as a routine traffic stop remains hospitalized in serious condition, with a gunshot to the pelvic region.  Lt. Chris Cook says doctors are trying to determine the best way to remove the bullet.  Cook says a routine traffic stop saw the shooting suspect resist frisking/a search and tried to flee, shooting at this officer as he ran.  Cook says this officer went down and a second officer at the scene on Randol Mill Road shot the suspect, later pronounced dead.  The suspect is identified as 20 year old Treyshun Symon Miller, and Cook says he’s had incidents with the law in Arlington as well as Frisco before.  Cook says Frisco police charged the suspect in 2017 with aggravated robbery, which involved a shooting.

Cook says the strong outpouring of community support, wishes, and prayers on social media for the injured officer is overwhelming and appreciated.  The injured officer is married, although Cook declines to discuss if the family has children.

Donations, flowers, cards – shows of support and thanks for service, Cook says, are welcome at any Arlington police substation and will be delivered to the intended recipients.
