A Garland Mom Honors Slain Son Collecting Holiday Toys and Blankets

WFAA – WBAP/KLIF – A Garland mother who lost her five year old son November of 2017 to drive by gunfire intended for someone else is collecting holiday toys and warm blankets again this season for kids in need.   Investigators believe Kason Powell was not the intended gunshot victim, but he was killed while visiting his dad in Denison.

Kason’s mother Shaniea Smith says Kason loved Legos and board games, so collecting for a second year this season with an eye on those types of toys, but also, warm blankets for children in need.

If you’d like to take part, drop off donations at Kason’s school in Garland, Mount Hebron Christian Academy, as well as Garland’s Sam Houston Middle School, or Chuck’ World Class Barbershop in Plano.

Collection in Kason’s memory only runs through the end of this week. Blankets will be dropped off at homeless shelters with large populations of children.
