North Texas Law Enforcement Join Forces to Create DWI Task Force Ahead of the Holidays

Cedar Hill  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The holidays are around the corner and while many are thinking of celebrations…law enforcement has to focus on keeping people safe on the roads due to an increase in drunk driving.

That’s why four North Texas Counties and more than 20 police departments have joined forces with other organizations to form a DWI Task Force and expand the “What Alcohol Says” public awareness campaign.

At a Wednesday morning press conference, Triple A’s Daniel Armbruster said  they’re putting a wrecked car on a tow truck along with a sign that reads “I drive better when I’m drunk” to show citizens the dangers of drunk driving.

“It’s going to be on all the major roadways in Dallas County. 635, 35, 75. It’s going to go through the bar district on McKinney Avenue as well. Letting people know this is what’s going to happen…plan ahead and be responsible,” he said.

Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said her office sees fatality accidents increase this time of year.

“People are celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year and they are getting in their cars and driving drunk,” she said.

Several counties will have no refusal weekends. Others are calling on the state legislature to create stronger penalties for those who kill someone while driving drunk.
