9 Year old North Texas Girl, Center of Legal Life Support Battle, Dies Friday Night

FORT WORTH – (WBAP/KLIF) – Nine year old Payton Summons has died of reported heart failure at Fort Worth’s Cook Children’s Medical Center.  Center of a legal battle by her family to keep the girl on life support, battling with doctors who announced Payton had no chance of recovery, the family’s attorney announced Payton’s death, saying her heart had stopped beating.

Payton had been on life support for two weeks after being admitted in cardiac arrest on September 25th.  Doctors later discovered a cancer tumor near her heart had cut off circulation.   Cook Children’s doctors determined the girl had no chance of recovery; her family searched hospitals nationwide to take the girl, believing she had a chance to recover.    Payton had been the center of several legal efforts in courts seeking to continue her care with a ventilator.
