Former Zetas Cartel Head Goes on Trial in Waco Monday

 

A 38 year old man federal officials describe as the former leader of Mexico’s Zetas drug cartel faces seven charges in Waco federal court beginning Monday.

Juan Fransisco Trevino Chavez Jr, an American citizen who is also known as “Kiko”, is accused of conspiracy to traffic marijuana and cocaine through South Texas, and laundering millions of dollars in proceeds.

Trevino Chavez Jr.will be tried on five counts that carry a possible punishment of ten years to life in prison.  He was arrested in Baytown in the fall of 2016.    Federal agents say the Zetas cartel used Interstate 35 to move drugs north.
