Hundreds of Fort Worth Students Walked Out of Class to Show Support for DACA

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – Students from several Fort Worth high schools walked out of class and marched around the Tarrant County Courthouse on Wednesday to show support for the DACA program.

The chanted and held signs that read “here to stay” and “be on the right side of history.”

“We’re here for a purpose…we’re not here to destroy the place. We’re the same people. Just because our parents come from Mexico, it shouldn’t identify them as anything else,” said one student.

Another student said his family made the decision to come to the United States with his future in mind.

“We’re fighting for our families. My parents crossed the border so I could graduate. So I could do something better for my family. God made us in his image. Everyone is equal no matter what,” he said.

The demonstration stayed peaceful and police directed traffic around the group.

Fort Worth Independent School District Superintendent Ken Scribner urged kids to stay in class but said that teachers accompanied students who walked out to make sure they stayed safe.

President Trump announced plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program this week, he gave Congress six months to find an alternative to the program.
