DALLAS, (WBAP/KLIF) – Once known as a commuter campus, Dallas Baptist University is start construction on its first ever Residential College for students.

“Our mission here at DBU is to develop christian servant leaders who are prepared to transform the world, and our vision is to build a great christian university that’s pleasing to God,” Jonathan Teat, Vice President of Administrative Affairs said.

Phase 1 of the construction begins this fall, and will take place on 20 acres of land located to the east of the university. The new section of the campus will be named Ford Village.

Students can begin applying in Spring 2019. The university will officially open the Residential College during the Fall 2019 semester and will only house 35 students the first year.

“Residential Colleges are distinct in the sense that they are living learning communities that are designed to focus intentionally and enhance on the development of students” said Teat.

Teats said once completely finished Ford Village will house up to 500 students, but expects 4 to 6 years before construction is completely done.

A university spokesperson says the school has more than 2,000 students who live on campus.
