GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News) – Firefighters in Garland worked overnight to salvage what was left of the Eastern Hills Country Club after a fire destroyed the building Monday morning.
The two-alarm fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. at the abandoned club on South Country Club Road near Eastern Hills Drive.
The Garland Fire Department’s Merrill Balanciere said the building hasn’t had electricity or gas in three years and that no one was inside.
“The fire came through on the second level. We know it’s vacant. So, we’re fighting in what we call defensive mode. We’re outside. We’re not going in. So, there’s no search and rescue,” he said.
Balanciere said investigators don’t believe that weather was a factor.
“It did rain tonight but we didn’t have any reports of lightning strikes. So, we will get a weather report tomorrow and find out about that also,” he said.
The fire completely destroyed the second level of the club.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
