Carnival Cruise with Missing Passenger Returns to Galveston

CRUISE SHIPGALVESTON, TX  (WBAP/KLIF News) –   The Carnival cruise ship “Liberty” returned to Galveston this morning, without one of its’ passengers on board.

33 year old Arlington resident Samantha Broberg fell overboard early Friday morning, prompting a massive U.S. Coast Guard search that was called off Sunday night.

Dallas resident Jo Trizila was on the ship and told KLIF’s Dave and Amy, the on-board announcements about Broberg became more frequent as time passed.  At one point, Trizila says all passengers had to return to their rooms and all the rooms were searched.  Finally, there was an announcement asking passengers to keep Broberg and her family in their thoughts and prayers.  Trizila says that’s when she knew Broberg had not been found.

Trizila says the hardest part of this for her, was trying to explain the situation to her 6 year old daughter.  Trizila adds it was also difficult to see the crime scene tape and the security guard on Deck 10 every time she went to the pool.
